ELIZABETH PSIMAS – Founding President/CEO – opened Travel Designers in 1988 following a career with New Dimensions in Travel in Norfolk, VA and Allied Transportation Company in Norfolk managing travel for over 200 barge/tugboat personnel. Elizabeth is a native of Portsmouth and a graduate of Westhampton College of the University of Richmond. In 1998 Elizabeth was named among the “Top 25 Business Women in Hampton Roads” by Virginia Business Magazine. In 1999, she was named in the first class of women to be “Strong, Smart, and Bold” by Girls Inc, Center for Youth. In 2003, Elizabeth was appointed by Virginia Governor Mark Warner to represent the City of Portsmouth on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge & Tunnel Commission, and in 2004 she was elected to the Portsmouth City Council. In 2008, she was re-elected by the people of Portsmouth to serve another four-year term. She has been generous with her time and talents to many civic organizations serving in leadership roles with the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, the Portsmouth Partnership, the Olde Towne Business Association, the American Red Cross, the Virginia Maritime Association, and the Cultural Alliance of Hampton Roads. She is also a member of SKAL, an international hospitality and tourism organization. Elizabeth has sailed on more than a dozen cruise lines, and more than twenty cruises in all corners of the world. She is well travelled in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and North America. Most of her daily work is with incentive/cruise groups and high end vacation travel.
ALAN PSIMAS – founding CFO – handles the administration, finance and reservations technology at Travel Designers. Alan is a Portsmouth native who has previously served as President of the Olde Towne Business Association, director of the Portsmouth Division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, and a director of Ports Events. Alan has travelled throughout the Caribbean, Hawaii, China, Hong Kong, and the eastern coast of the African continent.
SUE COLLADO – Corporate/Mariner Sales – has worked as a travel consultant since 1992. Sue spent the first years of her career as a partner in Bay Travel of Norfolk. Sue specializes in “mariner” international fares for merchant crew and fast paced corporate travel. Sue has lived on both coasts and is very well travelled in North America, the Caribbean, and Mexico.
TAMMY LIFSEY – Vacation Sales – Tammy started work in vacation travel in 1987. After a long career with CI Travel of Norfolk, she came to Travel Designers in 2003. Tammy is a certified Disney Specialist and Sandals & Beaches Specialist. She is well travelled in Europe and the Caribbean, and has sailed on many cruises.
NANCY PSIMAS – Exec Assistant – Nancy retired from medical office administration in 2007 and joined the Travel Designers staff to assist the owners in all phases of management and marketing. Nancy also handles escorted tour sales to South America and Australia, as she is well travelled in those areas.
Independent Consultants who work with Travel Designers
BRUCE STRATTNER – Independent Travel Consultant – Bruce was worked in vacation travel since 1985, with most of his career as the Manager for CI Travel’s Ghent office. Bruce has worked with Travel Designers for about one year on a contractor basis, serving high end luxury clients. He is extremely well traveled around the globe!
MICKEY HAWKS – Marketing/Travel Consultant – with Travel Designers as an independent contractor since 2008. Mickey was the Vice President of Retail Operations for CI Travel in Hampton Roads Area and in Florida for almost 30 years. She is very knowledgeable in all areas of travel. She has served on many Travel Advisory Boards for cruise lines, tour operators and tourism offices. Mickey was born in Japan but has lived in Norfolk, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach since moving to Virginia. Her expertise in vacation travel won her an award in Government Leisure Travel. She helped develop Travel Shows and Cruise shows in Hampton Roads and Naples, Florida. Mickey is an expert in international travel, cruises and exotic travel. Over her 33 years in travel, she has visited many countries in Asia and Europe. Her travels has also taken her to South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Tahiti, Mexico and most of the Caribbean Islands and the popular USA destinations. She just became a member of SKAL, an international hospitality and tourism organization. Mickey is available to do presentations in the evenings and on weekends for any group or organization.
DANA COULSTING – Independent Travel Consultant - A graduate of Western Branch High School, Dana began her career in the travel industry with USAirways as a flight attendant for 15 years. USAirways allowed Dana the opportunity to travel both nationally and internationally to experience destinations which many people dream of visiting. When it was time for Dana to be grounded it was a natural fit for her to begin a career as a travel consultant. She graduated from RAV Travel School in 1998 and worked as a travel consultant with Carlson Wagonlit Travel in Virginia Beach for 3 years before joining Grand Destinations of Chesapeake in 2002. In 2008 Dana started working as an Independent Contractor with Travel Designers where she continues to help her clients not only take a trip, but to create an experience and memories that last a life time. She has also had the opportunity to travel aboard several cruise lines to many ports of calls. Dana specializes in leisure travel, destination weddings, honeymoons and family vacations. She currently resides in Portsmouth VA with her husband and son.
